Breathing exercises
Learning diaphragmatic breathing, a longer out-breath and techniques that make clearing secretions easier.
You climb to the second floor and have to stop. Or months after an infection you still cannot get back to the form you had before, and a walk that used to be a warm-up now finishes off your day. Breathing is muscle work — and muscles can be trained.
Respiratory rehabilitation complements the treatment your doctor is providing; it does not replace it. We do not modify or stop any medication — that is a decision for the doctor treating you.
In our team this area is looked after by Anita, MSc Physiotherapy. We work on your breathing pattern, the mobility of the chest and a gradual increase in exercise tolerance, at a pace matched to your symptoms.
We match the methods to what the assessment shows — usually combining several of the following.
Learning diaphragmatic breathing, a longer out-breath and techniques that make clearing secretions easier.
Work on the mobility of the ribs, the diaphragm and the thoracic spine.
Gradually increasing your exercise tolerance, at a pace matched to your symptoms.
Reducing tension in the accessory breathing muscles — neck, shoulders and intercostals.
Getting back to activity with breathing control and graded loading.
Licensed physiotherapists with a PWZFz licence number.
